Plus, the pandemic and the shift to working from home have made millennials and Gen Z lonelier than ever, thanks in part to doomscrolling. "I believe the conventional 'make friends' apps too closely mimic the dating model, which can feel awkward and high-pressure for making friends," he said. The group hosts "reading parties" at bars and event spaces with the goal of helping people connect through reading. Dinner With Friends, a group that throws dinner parties, has worked on sponsored events with brands like Bumble and Geneva. Dinner With Friends founder Anita Michaud said brands typically either sponsor entire dinners or provide products — like canned cocktails — for the dinner parties.

The challenge for Frankel’s video is to do that in the train hall, and it can’t. Frankel’s piece matches our expectations for screen-play rather than transcending them, which means we’re not likely to notice it at all. Like lots of critics, curators and artists, I’ve always thought it made a lot of sense to insert video art, or art of almost any kind, into our everyday lives and communal spaces. And up on the screens at Moynihan, Frankel’s piece functions, whether he wants it to or not, as another ad for us to ignore. But would corporate titans stand to see their ads screened alongside art that’s wild enough to outshine them?

Google's new search capabilities can also be used for other crucial applications such as applying the correct billing codes and determining whether patients meet the criteria to enroll in a clinical trial, O'Malley said. Google Cloud on Monday announced new artificial intelligence-powered search capabilities that it said will help health-care workers quickly pull accurate clinical information from different types of medical records. Aashima Gupta, global director of health care strategy and solutions at Google Cloud, said the new Vertex AI Search capabilities can integrate directly into a clinician's workflow, which is of high importance for customers in the field. Customers can sign up for early access to Vertex AI Search for health care and life sciences starting Monday, but Google Cloud has already been testing the capabilities with health organizations such as Mayo Clinic, Hackensack Meridian Health and Highmark Health. Mayo Clinic is not using the new Vertex AI Search tools in clinical care yet, said Cris Ross, Mayo's chief information officer; it is starting with administrative use cases.

Homes a tenth the size of Mar-a-Lago on tiny inland lots sell for that in the Town of Palm Beach, a wealthy island enclave. It is also a club, private beach resort, historical artifact and banquet hall with a ballroom that features gold leaf. The much smaller Palm Beach compound once owned by the Kennedy political dynasty sold for $70 million three years ago. SO HOW DID PALM BEACH COUNTY COME UP WITH SUCH A LOW TAX ASSESSMENT? If Mar-a-Lago had a $1 billion assessed value, it’s property tax bill would be approximately $18 million.

REUTERS/Amanda Andrade-Rhoades./File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 4 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department will not target companies that disclose wrongdoing they find by businesses they are buying in a bid to encourage more self-disclosure, the Deputy Attorney General said on Wednesday. To get credit, companies must disclose the misconduct discovered at the other firm within six months of the deal closing, and they will have one year from closing to fully remediate, Monaco said. The new program is the latest in a series of policy changes announced under President Joe Biden designed to simultaneously promote corporate compliance while holding bad actors more accountable. Earlier this year, the Justice Department rolled out a new clawback program designed to have executives foot the bill for misconduct. The agency has been boosting resources for corporate criminal enforcement, Monaco said when asked about a slowdown in enforcement.

NEW YORK, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs' (GS.N) global head of commodities research Jeff Currie, a prominent analyst who accurately predicted a surge in commodity prices in the 2000s, is retiring, according to a memo seen by Reuters. Julian Salisbury, chief investment officer of its asset and wealth management arm, is departing to join investment firm Sixth Street, according to an announcement last month. His forecast was borne out in what would become known as the commodities supercycle, during which crude oil surged to record highs in 2008. More recently, Currie revived his prediction for another supercycle fuelled by pandemic stimulus measures and rebounding economic activity. Currie joined Goldman in 1996 and was promoted to managing director in 2002, then partner in 2008.

The officers pleaded guilty to 16 felonies including civil rights conspiracy, discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence and conspiracy to obstruct justice, among others. As part of their federal pleas, the men are also scheduled to plea guilty to state charges on Aug. 14, federal prosecutors said. The two Black men, Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrell Parker, filed a $400 million federal civil rights lawsuit against Rankin County in June over the case.

Fossils embedded in rock reveal intriguing details about animals, plants and other life-forms that once called Earth home. ConsequencesCrawford Lake in Ontario is the geological site that best reflects a new epoch recognizing the impact of human activity on Earth, said geologists of the Anthropocene Working Group. The Anthropocene Working Group determined in 2016 that the epoch began around 1950 — the start of the era of nuclear testing. The international research group says that Crawford Lake in Ontario best charts humanity’s impact on Earth. Back then, it took 10 hours to relay a single image to Earth — incredibly slow by today’s standards.

Explore the universe with news on fascinating discoveries, scientific advancements and more.CNN —Researchers using a cutting-edge technique have discovered hidden details in two ancient Egyptian paintings in the Theban Necropolis, near the River Nile, that date back more than 3,000 years. Using portable chemical imaging technology, the researchers identified alterations made by the artists that are rare in Egyptian paintings, commonly thought to be the product of highly formalized workflows. We want to understand how these paintings were made.”X-ray fluorescence in chemical imaging technology helps to reveal alterations made in Egyptian tomb paintings that may not seem obvious to the naked eye. “It demonstrates the potential value of quantitative data, obtained through scientific analysis, for a more comprehensive and less subjective interpretation of ancient Egyptian art,” she said. “And the adaption of portable (X-ray) instruments as mobile devices designed for use in the field is a very exciting advancement in the study of ancient Egyptian wall paintings.”

GEORGETOWN, May 19 (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM.N) on Friday said an ongoing dispute with the government of Guyana over oil-spill insurance could halt production at its first offshore platform, cutting revenue by about $350 million per month. A Guyanese court this month found Exxon in breach of insurance obligations for Liza One, its first offshore oil project, and called for additional insurance adequate to protect against a catastrophic oil spill. Exxon and partners in an offshore consortium that has produced all the country's oil to date have $600 million in insurance and up to $19 billion in assets in the country, Exxon officials said at media briefing. Exxon said that if the sides are unable to agree, it could halt output from Lisa One platform and cost about $350 million in lost revenue. Guyana would incur a hit of $80 million to $88 million to earnings from its share of production, according to the country's National Resource Fund's latest quarterly report.
MILAN, May 16 (Reuters) - Intesa Sanpaolo (ISP.MI) has introduced an artificial intelligence tool it has designed to wade through thousands of publications on banking supervision, Italy's biggest bank said on Tuesday. The machine learning tool, dubbed Lisa or Linguistic Intelligence for Supervisory Awareness, uses language processing algorithms to scan documents for correlations and patterns of meaning to help predict future trends. Intesa has a dedicated team of people who worked with Lisa, validating its results but also expanding its awareness of banking regulatory issues. "Banking supervision is an area where it is fair to speak of information overload, with truly massive and exponential content production," said Walter Chiaradonna, head of Intesa's supervisory strategic steering department. Chiaradonna listed "practices, interviews, statements, texts and in-depth studies that in turn generate a proliferation of information that is unmanageable without adequate support."

Headed by Iván, El Chapo’s oldest son, the siblings have emerged as key figures in the Sinaloa Cartel, U.S. and Mexican anti-narcotics officials said. But he was killed in 2008 in Culiacán in a hail of bullets amid infighting between warring factions of the Sinaloa Cartel. The agency in April placed Iván on the list of its 10 Most Wanted Fugitives, joining Jesús Alfredo and Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, a Sinaloa Cartel legend and El Chapo’s alleged former business partner. They also kidnapped eight soldiers and surrounded military housing where wives and children of Mexican soldiers lived, Mexican officials said. Despite that blow to the Sinaloa Cartel, fentanyl keeps flowing north.
